This first-of-its kind course will explore clinical principles to reduce patient vulnerability to developing severe infection during the pandemic, increase resistance to infection, improve resilience to the more injurious consequences of infection, and optimize recovery from infection and its long term consequences. In the form of a clinical algorithm, the course  provides protocols on what to recommend for which patients and at what point in the course of illness. This algorithm includes a framework for dietary and lifestyle treatments, managing comorbidities that influence risk, and therapeutic approaches to nutraceutical, botanical, and pharmaceutical interventions.

In addition to one year of on-demand access to this content, the course will also include a longitudinal component to keep you up to date on all the newest research findings and clinical pearls regarding this rapidly evolving pandemic. Each month from January through June, IFM will deliver a webinar on the latest topics of interest related to the functional medicine approach to COVID-19.

It covers the pandemic from all angles, including risk factors of vulnerability to severe infection, antecedents and mediators, social determinants of health, clinical course of illness, cellular and molecular-level mechanisms of the virus, and agents that can be used to intervene at all stages of the disease.

    Although the course has been designed for practicing medical professionals, there are no pre-requisites in terms of degree.
  • Am I required to take any other IFM courses prior?
    No, however since a grounding in functional medicine will help in your understanding of the material and the approach, our brief elearning course Introduction to Functional Medicine has been included with Resistance, Resilience, and Recovery: Patient Care in a Pandemic course. This course is not a part of IFM’s Certification Program (IFMCP).
  • What accommodations have been made in this course?
    The elearning course supports keyboard navigation, closed caption, transcripts, and is compatible with many screen readers.
  • Are there CME credits awarded for taking the course?
    No, due to the rapidly evolving knowledge base in this topic area, it is not possible to provide the levels of review required to offer continuing education credits.
  • How long do I have access to the course?
    One year access starting at the date of your purchase.
  • There are so many new developments happening so fast with this topic, will the course go out of date?
    No, as new developments occur updates will be sent to enrolled learners. All enrolled learners will be able to participate in monthly webinars with expert panels with live Q&A beginning in January 2021. These sessions will be recorded and added to the course to become part of the materials going forward.

A full refund can be requested within 48 hours (two days) of receiving access to course content. Refund requests received after one week (seven days) of receiving access to course content are eligible for a refund, less a $50 cancellation fee.
