Today’s Landscape

During the past decade, convincing evidence has accumulated that conquering heart disease is not simply a matter of driving serum cholesterol down. In fact, one-half of the people who have a heart attack have normal cholesterol and now low cholesterol is being associated with a significant risk of early cognitive decline. New information is available. Clinicians are no longer limited to using antiquated measures of cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood sugars as the primary markers of increased risk for cardiometabolic disorders: advanced lipid assays, markers of oxidative stress, inflammation, hormones, and body composition are all providing new opportunities for safer and more effective early interventions to prevent and reverse cardiometabolic disease.

IFM’s cardiometabolic Advanced Practice Module

The module will help clinicians understand the physiology underlying cardiometabolic syndrome and cardiovascular disease, new approaches to effective assessments and treatments, and how to integrate these lifesaving tools into practice.

Practice Implementation

Addressing the Need for Practice Implementation Learning

In our recent study, Functional Medicine Practices: Opportunities, Challenges, and Emerging Trends, we uncovered a common need among practitioners for robust practice implementation training. In response, we have begun to enhance each of our Advanced Practice Modules (APMs) with additional content on translating the module into action. New presentations will explore topics ranging from clinical pearls to billing and coding compliance for insurance-based practices.

BUSINESS AND CLINICAL STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE IMPLEMENTATION

Leading by Example: Self-Care Influences the Health & Success of the FM Practice

The health of a FM business is closely related to the self-care of the practitioners and staff of the practice. In this 90 minute PI session take a deep dive into your own self-care habits, discover areas that need additional focus; highlight self-care steps you already use and which influence your patients’ outcomes. How does the self-care of your staff reflect your practice’s message, does your practice environment encourage self-care in your patients, staff and yourself? During this session you’ll hear from other FM practitioners on their own self-care journey.  This session will wrap up with attendees taking part in a mini workshop to explore the care of the most important part of your practice – You.

Objectives:

  • To reflect and consider whether your personal daily habits and those of your staff are modeling the self-care that patients are being taught in your practice
  • Hear personal stories from FM practitioners and how they learned, and now practice, the “art” of self-care
  • Participate in a workshop to explore more ways to cultivate self-care behaviors for yourself and your staff
