Clinical Solutions for Mitochondrial and Metabolic Dysfunction
Energy drives all biologic activity—within individual atoms and molecules, as part of cellular physiology, up through organ-system and whole-person functioning and, ultimately, the entire biosphere. The last 20 years have brought us dramatic breakthroughs in understanding how mitochondria work and what they require for enduring optimal function. Genetic and epigenetic vulnerabilities have been discovered; the effects of toxic environmental exposures on energy production have been revealed; and connections between dysregulation in energy production and many clinical conditions have been described.
Physiology is one side of the coin, but we are also learning about the larger energy landscape, including the mechanisms underlying the clinical effects of magnetic fields and microcurrent, hands-on therapies such as manipulation, craniosacral, and acupuncture, and the profound power of the therapeutic partnership.
This Advanced Practice Module will investigate the science of mitochondrial function and dysfunction, the impact of oxidative stress, and nutritional and lifestyle influences on both health and disease. Clinicians will learn how to regenerate compromised mitochondrial function and how to address the varied underlying causes of fatigue, depression, headache, and neurodegenerative disorders such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s diseases. Evidence-based modalities to address pain will be introduced, and the profound potential of the healing partnership will be both explored and experienced.

IFM PLANNING CALENDAR
Clinical Education is a Not-for-Profit organization based in the United Kingdom that brings a range of educational experiences to healthcare professionals in the UK and EU. They have a hard-earned reputation as an independent provider of expert-led nutrition and lifestyle medicine education.
Clinical Education and IFM have worked closely together since hosting the inaugural AFMCP UK in 2011 and the collaboration has grown stronger each year. Clinical Education sponsors and organizes IFM educational events for practitioners and clinicians who are unable to attend IFM programs held in the United States. They contribute rich clinical experience in the production of regionally adapted content and presentations, creating an invaluable experience for practitioners by keenly connecting the presented material to practice implementation for international audiences. This partnership continues to have a significant impact on our mission of the global widespread adoption of functional medicine.
AMA PRA Category 1 creditsTM are not available for IFM courses held in conjunction with non-accredited organizations. A certificate of attendance indicating hours of participation will still be awarded. International registrants may send certificate to Clinical Education for CPD credits from the following

I have more questions, who should I ask?
Please contact info@IFM.org with any additional questions.
Who is organising this program?
IFM is organising this Bioenergetics Advanced Practice Module, Europe . Clinical Education is partnering with IFM to provide critically important regionalization for the UK/EMEA region.
Is the Module the same as the one run in the US time zone?
The Bioenergetics Advanced Practice Module, Europe will be run at the same level and high standards as the US broadcast. The presentations will be adjusted to account for variations in the language, laboratory profiles and medications. The EU/UK has a different regulatory network relating to food supplements than the US and some changes to the content will be made to reflect that. In addition, the tests discussed will be ones that are obtainable in the UK through relevant laboratories or their distributors, details of which will be hosted by the Clinical Education Virtual Exhibit Hall.
Who is the course designed for?
Functional medicine has long encouraged an integrative approach to clinical education. This course is for healthcare practitioners who are already qualified in a core discipline and applicants/attendees must be a graduate of an accredited medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, naturopathic, homeopathic, dietetics, acupuncture, pharmacy, physiotherapy or nutritional therapy programme. If you have any doubts you may contact IFM. Previous training in functional medicine is desirable but not essential; a good understanding of the role nutrition plays in health is also helpful.
Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements for this course does not guarantee acceptance into IFM’s Certification Program. Healthcare practitioners who would like to continue their Functional Medicine education with IFM and seek certification will need to apply directly to IFM to have their eligibility determined. You can find our eligibility requirements here. Every application is evaluated on educational background, program degree, regulatory status, and clinical experience.
If the presentations are recorded, why do I have to attend live?
You must check in and be present for the duration of the Live Rebroadcast to receive CPD credit and to fulfill IFM Certification Program requirements. This has been pre-approved by IFM as eligible for the Certification Program.
I want to talk about the course with someone, who do I contact?
Please contact the IFM Experience Team via telephone, email, or live chat
Live chat available M-F from 8:00 to 4:30 PST
If you are EMEA or UK based and have questions specific to your region, our Experience team will be happy to put you in touch with Clinical Education staff directly.
