Clinical competencies to be mastered through the module:

• Recognize the relationship between systemic disease and toxic exposures through a clear understanding of the pathophysiology of total toxic load and synergistic effects of both toxicants and toxins.
• Identify diseases and dysfunctions potentially associated with chronic toxicity and specifically recognize the relationships between chronic toxic insult and neurotoxicity, immunotoxicity, autoimmunity, mitochondrial dysfunction, endocrine disruption, and carcinogenesis.
• Apply the PURE principles for managing patients with toxicity concerns (Pattern recognition, Undernourishment, Reduce toxins, Ensure a safe detox).
• Integrate screening questionnaires and detox-specific physical exam findings within a functional medicine intake to discover and assess relevant toxic exposures, and to also track individual’s responses to their environments along with therapeutic interventions.
• Recognize and address the most important antecedents, triggers, and mediators of toxic overload, including impaired biotransformation, dysbiosis, impaired excretion, and nutritional deficiencies.
• Appropriately apply and interpret reliable laboratory evaluations of toxic load and biotransformative capacity.
• Develop personalized dietary treatment using the IFM Elimination Diet and Detox Food Plan suites.
• Apply various nutraceuticals, botanicals, pharmaceuticals, and lifestyle interventions to increase mobilization, biotransformation, and elimination of toxic compounds in the body.

Clinical Education is a Not-for-Profit organization based in the United Kingdom that brings a range of educational experiences to healthcare professionals in the UK and EU. They have a hard-earned reputation as an independent provider of expert-led nutrition and lifestyle medicine education.

Clinical Education and IFM have worked closely together since hosting the inaugural AFMCP UK in 2011 and the collaboration has grown stronger each year. Clinical Education sponsors and organizes IFM educational events for practitioners and clinicians who are unable to attend IFM programs held in the United States. They contribute rich clinical experience in the production of regionally adapted content and presentations, creating an invaluable experience for practitioners by keenly connecting the presented material to practice implementation for international audiences. This partnership continues to have a significant impact on our mission of the global widespread adoption of functional medicine.

In each of IFM’s Advanced Practice Modules we have added additional practical information to help you translate the laboratory and nutraceutical recommendations we discussed into action. You have access to two quick-reference guides which summarize condition-specific laboratory assessment and nutraceutical interventions, which will help you efficiently create personalized assessment and treatment plans.

AMA PRA Category 1 credits^TM are not available for IFM courses held in conjunction with non-accredited organizations. A certificate of attendance indicating hours of participation will still be awarded. International registrants may send certificate to Clinical Education for CPD credits from the following

Outside of the US, CPD Credits are provided from:

• Self-Accreditation from the Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.
• The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT).
• The Naturopathic Nutrition Association (NNA).
• Association of Naturopathic Practitioners
• Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI).

Others, as required, will be considered.

• The Royal Colleges of Physicians approve external CPD events for post-training physicians.
• External events are defined as educational events which are targeted towards physicians from multiple hospitals and trusts. External events may be regional, national or international in character.
• Medical Drs: The Royal College of Physicians have recommended that medical Drs attending the Environmental Health Advanced Practice Module training claim the hours attended as ‘Self-Accreditation’ They may record a maximum CPD educational activity of 18.5. Physicians should only claim credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

Academy of Medical Royal Colleges.

• Medical Drs: Under the CPD guidelines issued by the academy, 1 credit per hour attended may be applied to your annual CPD educational activities requirements. Attendees utilising their respective royal colleges CPD mechanism will record this event under ‘Self-Accreditation’ and ensure that as per usual they complete the requirements to describe the relevant activities for their clinical life and their reflective learning assessments are recorded.

DCs, and DOs: For Osteopaths and Chiropractors in the UK and EU the need for external accreditation will be determined by your registering body. Please check with them as to which CPD credit you can use.

The Position in the UK and Europe

• Nutritional Therapists: The British Association for Applied Nutrition and Nutritional Therapy (BANT) is the professional body for Nutritional Therapists. 18.5 CPD Credits have been approved. Additional credits may also be logged by attending the optional sessions .
• Ireland: CPD Credits have been applied for from the Nutritional Therapists of Ireland (NTOI).
• Naturopaths: Please contact your own registering board to ascertain if these recognising authorities are compatible.
• Nursing Professionals: Please contact your own registering board to ascertain if these recognising authorities are compatible

REGISTRATION POLICY

Program materials and certificates are delivered to you through your personal IFM online account. For this reason, you may not register multiple people or someone other than yourself. No registrations will be taken after 11:59 pm GMT, June 9, 2022.

Participation

Live-stream participation from June 10 – 12, 2022, is required for this IFM program. You must participate in the broadcast by logging in to your unique IFM account to a receive certificate of completion and to fulfill IFM Certification Program requirements. Live-stream log-in information is unique and cannot be shared. Those who do not log in through their own IFM account during the live broadcast will be removed from the program and will not receive program materials, recordings, credit, or a certificate of completion toward the IFM Certification Program.

LIVE-STREAM CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellations must be received in writing no later than June 10, 2022 to be eligible for a refund. Tuition is non-transferable. Failure to log in to the live-stream broadcast with no prior written cancellation will result in complete forfeiture of tuition and the course will not count toward certification (nonrefundable, nontransferable, no exceptions). Program materials are available only to participants. Just as is the case with in-person courses, participation is limited to the paid registrant. Log-in information is unique and cannot be shared.

Is the Module the same as the one run in the US time zone?
The Environmental Health Advance Practice Module will be run at the same level and high standards as the US broadcast. The presentations will be adjusted to account for variations in the language, laboratory profiles and medications. The EU/UK has a different regulatory network relating to food supplements than the USA and some changes to the content will be made to reflect that. In addition, the tests discussed will be ones that are obtainable in the UK through relevant laboratories or their distributors, details of which will be hosted by the Clinical Education Virtual Exhibit Hall.

Who is the course designed for?
Functional medicine has long encouraged an integrative approach to clinical education. This course is for healthcare practitioners who are already qualified in a core discipline and applicants/attendees must be a graduate of an accredited medical, osteopathic, chiropractic, naturopathic, homeopathic, dietetics, acupuncture, pharmacy, physiotherapy or nutritional therapy programme. If you have any doubts you may contact IFM . Previous training in functional medicine is desirable but not essential; a good understanding of the role nutrition plays in health is also helpful.

Meeting the minimum eligibility requirements for this course does not guarantee acceptance into IFM™’s Certification Program. Healthcare practitioners who would like to continue their Functional Medicine education with IFM™ and seek certification will need to apply directly to IFM™ to have their eligibility determined.
