Today’s Landscape

For some clinicians, hormone replacement therapy (HRT) in women and men is still considered the fountain of youth; for others, it has become a dangerous area fraught with considerable risk that is avoided completely. Controversies and disagreements abound regarding how to diagnose and measure hormonal dysfunction; how to address safety concerns in prescribing HRT; the form, application and dosage to use; and when and how to insert lifestyle, diet, nutraceutical and botanical treatments.

The Functional Medicine approach is uniquely capable of responding to the controversy surrounding HRT. The Functional Medicine approach is to look upstream and apply dietary modifications, nutraceutical supplementation, and other lifestyle changes before even considering HRT. In this way, the need for HRT can often be minimized or avoided.

IFM’s Hormone Advanced Practice Module

This Functional Medicine Advanced Practice Module will clarify exactly how to approach hormonal dysregulation, with discussions on the most important evaluations to make and integrative treatment approaches to apply. We will help you analyze the controversies and provide you with tools that you can use immediately in your practice.

Program Highlights

Our expert faculty team will supply you with the foundational background, insight, and in-depth clinical thinking to confidently assess and treat patients who present with hormonal dysfunction. This program will provide a unique, experiential, case-based, clinically practical experience from which you will acquire the tools you need to apply a comprehensive Functional Medicine approach to hormone dysfunction in your patients.

MD/DO: The Institute for Functional Medicine designates this live activity for a maximum of 18.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™. Physicians should claim only the credit commensurate with the extent of their participation in the activity.

ACCME-accredited courses for AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ are eligible for Category 2 credit through the American Osteopathic Association (AOA). To obtain the Category 2 credit please email, fax, or mail certificates of attendance to the AOA Department of Client and Member Services. For more information click here.

ABIM MOC Points Available: Successful completion of this CME activity, which includes participation in the evaluation component, enables the participant to earn up to 18.5 Medical Knowledge MOC points in the American Board of Internal Medicine’s (ABIM) Maintenance of Certification (MOC) program. Participants will earn MOC points equivalent to the amount of CME credits claimed for the activity. It is the CME activity provider’s responsibility to submit participant completion information to ACCME for the purpose of granting ABIM MOC credit.

Practice Implementation

Addressing the Need for Practice Implementation Learning

In our recent study, Functional Medicine Practices: Opportunities, Challenges, and Emerging Trends, we uncovered a common need among practitioners for robust practice implementation training. In response, we have begun to enhance each of our Advanced Practice Modules (APMs) with additional content on translating the module into action. New presentations will explore topics ranging from clinical pearls to billing and coding compliance for insurance-based practices.

BUSINESS AND CLINICAL STRATEGIES FOR SUCCESSFUL PRACTICE IMPLEMENTATION

Developing and Utilizing Mentorships & Diving into Functional Medicine Practice Finances

Effective prescribing of Functional Medicine (FM) requires a deep dedication to the learning and honing of clinical skills. However, the successful integration of FM into a healthcare practice requires its own unique set of expertise including a short and long term business plan and a clear and detailed financial strategy. Mentorship by other FM leaders is often key in learning how to create successful FM businesses and practices. This 90 minute PI session will give listeners insight into the various ways mentorships can support a new FM practice. Attendees will also have the opportunity to take part in a short “financial mentorship” workshop looking at big picture strategy in setting up a successful FM business.

Learning Objectives:

  • Learn more about currently available mentorships in the FM ecosystem
  • Hear FM experts discuss their experience both as FM mentors and mentees
  • Participate in a financial strategy workshop
