Therapeutic Food Plans: A Component of Personalized Nutrition (TFP)
Create dietary interventions that address disease and promote health
Course Overview
Is precision nutrition part of your clinical toolkit? Selecting therapeutic foods is a powerful tool for the prevention and management of several chronic conditions. In the Therapeutic Food Plans course, you’ll examine the role of nutrition within the functional medicine framework and learn how to fully customize a dietary intervention to effectively address each patient’s health concerns, dietary needs, and preferences. Through this course, clinicians will develop mastery over IFM’s suite of therapeutic food plans and be able to quickly and effectively design a personalized nutrition plan. Clinicians from all disciplines are encouraged to join the course, especially if they work closely with patients on nutrition.
Developed in collaboration with the American Nutrition Association (ANA), TFP educates clinicians and nutrition professionals on the clinical applications of IFM’s suite of therapeutic food plans, including features, scientific rationale, customization, troubleshooting, and patient engagement tips. To help support patient engagement, you may also choose to bundle the Patient Education Series (PES). PES overviews features of each plan and is a helpful resource that patients can refer to at home.

Patient Education Series
The Patient Education Series (PES) is a group of interactive, online, on-demand videos designed to guide patients through key features of any of the IFM food plans. If you currently use IFM food plans in practice, PES saves time by allowing you to focus more time on personalizing the food plan rather than explaining it. This series can be purchased as part of the Therapeutic Food Plans: A Component of Personalized Nutrition (TFP) online course or as a standalone resource. PES can be easily distributed to patient health portals and helps set patients up for success. There are many benefits for both practitioners and patients, including:
- Convenient way to introduce patients to any of IFM’s eight food plans
- Saves practitioner time that otherwise would be spent repeating the same basic plan information to each patient for which it is indicated
- Allows practitioners to focus on the elements of a food plan that are personalized for each patient
- Provides patients continued access to the basics of their plan in case they have questions or forget an element of the plan
- Helps set up patients for success in adopting sustained lifestyle and dietary changes
A guided tour of each food plan
