The Institute for Functional Medicine Grants 25 Scholarships to Integrative Medicine for the Underserved

For Immediate Release

June 14, 2017

Federal Way, WA—The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) has granted 25 scholarships for clinicians through Integrative Medicine for the Underserved (IM4US). IM4US clinicians have the opportunity to apply for one of the scholarships to attend IFM’s five-day foundational conference, Applying Functional Medicine in Clinical Practice (AFMCP), or one of the six Advanced Practice Modules (APMs). Each scholarship will cover the full tuition fee of the course.

IFM is the global leader and catalyst of the Functional Medicine Movement. The support of organizations like IM4US is crucial to IFM’s goal of advancing the widespread adoption of Functional Medicine as the standard of care. The mission of IM4US continues to strive for the same goal, to make integrative health care more accessible and affordable to underserved populations.

IFM’s Executive Director of Medical Education Robert Luby, MD, states, “IFM and IM4US are both mission-driven organizations with much common ground. For many years, there has been informal collaboration between the two organizations. In the interests of the widespread adoption of Functional Medicine in underserved settings, and in recognition that IM4US member-clinicians are singularly capable of delivering high quality and high value care to these populations, IFM is pleased to announce a new landmark in this partnership with the granting of 25 scholarships for IFM programs to be awarded to deserving IM4US members.”

“Functional Medicine’s emphasis on identifying and addressing root causes is ideal for addressing chronic disease in low-resource settings—it is always cheaper and more effective to identify and remove the causes of illness than to try to treat the symptoms indefinitely. The emphasis on the healing partnership and on education and empowerment of patients is vital in serving underserved communities and in bringing the focus of control back to our patients. IM4US is very grateful for the support of IFM in expanding this training into these practice sites,” states Connie Basch, MD, IM4US board member.

Twenty-five full scholarships for the 2017 calendar year will be awarded to IM4US clinicians. Awarded clinicians can register under one of these scholarships for either an AFMCP conference or one of the six APMs. For more information and to apply, click here.
