Functional Medicine for Pharmacists: Root Cause Approaches to Medication Therapy Management

The Institute for Functional Medicine, in collaboration with Functional Medicine CE, presents a comprehensive training course for pharmacists interested in applying functional medicine in their pharmacy practice. This online, self-paced course combines foundational concepts in functional medicine assessment and plan design with medication management to equip pharmacists with the tools necessary to offer personalized, holistic care to their patients. The course includes an introduction to functional medicine principles, enabling pharmacists to assess disease state status through a systems medicine lens and to apply the principles of the Functional Medicine Matrix in assessing patients and designing personalized treatment plans. The course also explores topics such as drug-induced nutrient depletions, drug-nutrient interactions, and drug-herb interactions using case-based learning. Pharmacists will learn how to apply a functional medicine lens to medication therapy management and play an active role in patient nutraceutical management.

The course is for pharmacists interested in learning or enhancing their knowledge of foundational concepts in functional medicine and applying a functional lens to managing patients’ medication, nutraceuticals, and disease state monitoring. Prior training in functional medicine isn’t required and the course is suitable for all pharmacists, especially those practicing in community pharmacy, retail, and ambulatory care as well as those who have a consulting practice.
