Information for Patients

From the practitioner: About My Practice

Dr. Mitchell completed her GI fellowship training in 1995 at Kansas University Medical Center then moved to Colorado Springs in 1996. In the late 1990’s, GI practices were small, and she started her practice as the only female gastroenterologist in Colorado Springs. The early years of her career were focused on managing all aspects of chronic and acute GI disease including critically ill patients in the hospital. She then opened Gutwell Medical in 2019 to provide patients with a concierge medical experience, focused on individualized care. She is a board-certified gastroenterologist who focuses on whole body disease treatment and prevention by optimizing the microbiome.

From the practitioner: What Patients Can Expect

Dr. Mitchell has a strong belief that the best medical care is preventative care to proactively manage disease and prevent hospitalizations. She and her partners strive to keep patients out of the emergency rooms and provide immediate care to keep health care costs down. She began studying functional medicine two years ago through the Cleveland Clinic and Institute of Functional Medicine. She is passionate about the science of the gut microbiome and devotes her time to researching healing principles by targeting health of the GI tract. Her practice, Gutwell Medical, collaborates with UCCS Department of Nutrition and sponsors GI internships for their nutrition students.
