IFM Appoints Laurie Hofmann, MPH, as Chairman of the Board of Directors

For Immediate Release

September 26, 2017

Federal Way, WA—The Institute for Functional Medicine (IFM) is excited to announce that Laurie Hofmann, MPH, IFM’s current chief executive officer, has accepted the additional role of chairman of the IFM Board of Directors.

“I am delighted and grateful to have the opportunity to continue to serve IFM’s mission and the Functional Medicine movement,” Hofmann said. “I have accepted this additional role as board chairman specifically to help catalyze and expand the resources, expertise, networks, and partnerships needed to fulfill the vision of IFM’s 2020 Strategic Plan.”

Former Chairman of the Board Mark Hyman, MD, will transition into a new role as IFM’s Board President of Clinical Affairs. Hyman will lead IFM’s work in building innovative clinical collaborations such as Cleveland Clinic Center for Functional Medicine.

“Over the last 15 years, I have worked closely with Laurie Hofmann, first as a fellow board member and then in our more recent and respective roles as board chairman and chief executive officer. Laurie has led IFM with grace and wisdom,” says Hyman. “IFM’s Board of Directors was eager to retain Laurie’s leadership and visionary skills, which led to her appointment as chairman. I will be taking on the role of Board President of Clinical Affairs and look forward to continuing to lead and advance the adoption of Functional Medicine worldwide.”

Jeffrey Bland, PhD, co-founder of IFM and chairman emeritus remarks, “IFM has grown dramatically over the past ten years and is now poised to execute on its visionary five-year strategic plan that will power the expansion and broader adoption of Functional Medicine globally. I am so excited that the board has elected Laurie Hofmann, who has been serving as IFM’s CEO during these years of tremendous growth. I am equally thrilled that Mark Hyman has been appointed Board President of Clinical Affairs. Mark’s clinical expertise, passion, and advocacy for Functional Medicine will continue to fuel the adoption of Functional Medicine. The opportunity to retain and leverage the experience, track records, and vision of both Mark and Laurie in service to the Functional Medicine movement provides a tremendous complement to IFM’s executive team and staff.”

IFM’s CEO search is currently underway, and the team is optimistic that they will be able to announce the next CEO of IFM by the end of the year. Hofmann will continue serving IFM as the CEO and chairman until the position is filled.
